A chemical peel is a procedure in which a chemical solution is applied to the skin to remove the top layers.
Chemical peels are designed to remove damaged or excess surface skin cells in a controlled manner, allowing healthier-looking skin to emerge as the treated area heals.
Depending on your skin condition and treatment goals, a peel may be superficial, medium-depth or deep. Lighter peels are commonly used for concerns such as dullness, uneven tone and some types of acne, while stronger peels may be used for selected wrinkles, acne scars or more significant skin changes.
At Wizderm, the appropriate peel and strength should be determined following a consultation rather than using a one-size-fits-all approach.
Before treatment, your skin is assessed and cleansed. The selected chemical solution is then applied carefully to the treatment area and monitored by the practitioner. Depending on the type and depth of peel, you may experience temporary warmth, tingling or stinging.
Once the appropriate treatment time has passed, the peel is removed or neutralized as required, and soothing post-treatment products may be applied. Your doctor will also provide individualized aftercare and sun-protection instructions.
Potential benefits include:
Possible risks include:
Recovery depends largely on the type and depth of the peel.
A superficial peel may involve redness, dryness and scaling, with healing commonly taking around 1–7 days. Medium peels may require approximately 7–14 days, while deeper peels require substantially longer recovery and closer medical follow-up.
During recovery, follow your doctor’s instructions carefully, avoid picking or scratching treated skin, keep the skin moisturized as advised, and protect it from the sun. Daily sunscreen is particularly important after treatment.
Results vary between patients and may require a series of treatments, particularly with lighter peels.
Contact your doctor if you experience severe or worsening pain, significant swelling, blistering, increasing redness, signs of infection, unusual skin discoloration, or any reaction that concerns you.
Do not pick, peel or scratch the treated skin, as this can increase the risk of infection and scarring.
